This June, Bellwoods Lifestyle Store is the donating to akt, the only national charity dedicated to providing support for LGBTQ+ young people who are either at risk of homelessness or currently experiencing it. We’ll be donating 10% of all sales in our Whitley Bay shop and on bellwoodslifestylestore.co.uk to the charity on Friday, 27th June.

Shockingly, statistics reveal that 24% of homeless individuals aged 16-25 identify as LGBTQ+.
Unlike their heterosexual or cisgender counterparts, LGBTQ+ individuals often find themselves homeless precisely because of their identity, making them vulnerable to precarious housing situations. Research by akt shows you are twice as likely to become homeless if you are LGBTQ+.
akt offer essential services that cater to the specific needs of LGBTQ+ youth, ranging from emergency housing advice to finding community.
They support LGBTQ+ young people by providing routes into safe, affordable, long-term housing, as well as actions around employability, mental health, community building, youth engagement and healthcare.
Between April 2023 – May 2024, akt supported 791 LGBTQ+ young people at risk of, or experiencing homelessness or a hostile living environment.
No one should have to choose between a safe home and being who they are.

- £31 could provide emergency supplies to a young person coming off the streets
- £49 could fund a night of safe, warm accommodation
- £100 could give expert caseworker support to eight young people
